Grades K-8
The K-6 religious education program at St. Mary's is managed by Cathy Cooney, Director of Religious Education and Karen Dill, grades 7-8.
The Religious Education Program at St. Mary’s—Stony Hill functions under a philosophy that teaches the beauty and traditions of our Catholic faith both as to its heritage and as its means for religious growth and education. This program seeks to nurture the development of the whole person where respect, dignity, and faith in God will be developed in a Christian community. The choice to attend Religious Education classes is the choice of parents, as primary educators, to prepare their children in the best possible way for full initiation into the community of believers through the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation. These Sacraments call us and them to full communion with Jesus in the Church and full participation in the life of the community. They and we must possess a full understanding of the community’s life and worship in order to make a knowledgeable choice for a lifetime commitment to ministry and service.
Overall, the Religious Education Program at St. Mary’s teaches the doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church, upholds current documents including the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and is based on the Guidelines of the Diocese of Metuchen. Training and support are offered to any member of the parish who is interested in teaching religious education classes. We are committed to assisting parents in carrying out their goals as primary educators of their children.
To participate in the Religious Education Program, each family must first be registered with our Parish. Online registration starts in late spring for the fall classes. The class times for grades 1-8 are as follows:
Grades K - 6: Sundays 10:00-11:00 AM
Grades 1 - 6: Wednesdays 4:00—5:00 PM
Grades 5 - 6: Mondays 5:00 - 6:00 PM
Grades 7 - 8: Mondays 5:00 -6:00 PM and 7:00-8:00 PM
Families are encouraged to choose a convenient day and time for religious education classes for their children following the above schedule. Further information is available on the parish website.
In addition to our regularly scheduled classes, we ask that parents take advantage of special programs geared toward children such as the Children’s Liturgy of the Word Program.
